Concept of the shoot
I inversion a very high energy shot due to the fact the video was performed based. However, I want to use a black backdrop so the I can use a fill light to make Jessie standout against such a harsh background colour. I will take a variety of medium to close up because that is the conventional shot types of these types of print products. This will be effective for my target audience because they can relate to the miss-en-scene of clothing that Jessie may be wearing because is very common and directly targeted toward them.

Inspiration

Double exposure album covers

Image result for double exposure album coverImage result for double exposure album cover

These album covers are inspiration to the album cover i hope to create because, they have a doubled exposure which is compatible because i hope to convey african culture through the images i use in the creation of the album. Also, it will work well with a cityscape, however i will try and incorporate more of the artist features and more vibrant colour palette.

editing schedule

this is the editing schedule to book your hard drive and
organise when your group can meet

Due to our editing for our music videos being saved on a hard drive which is shared amongst other classes we have to book time within our groups to organise our availability of when we could edit the video,

Rough screening feedback

Today in class my group presented our music video rough cut , in which we was given feedback on the classes opinions of what they thought of our music video.

In the beginning of this feedback video, a member of the group outlines(sephora) explains why we had failed to add much lip sync in our clips,to explain why there is limited footage that is shown

Below is the positive feedback outlined :

- They enjoyed the edit of flipping between black and white to colour
- Positive use of colours and lighting in graffiti shots
- enjoyed the song
- "It was really good"
- Good performance

Negatives

- sticking to our original ideas that we had previously pitched
- use a variation of dancers to perform and learn a dance
- Not alot of time left to edit and film
- Add more effects between shots
-better lighting -keep it simple

The feedback was very useful and we all really appreciate the feedback when we completing are final filming also, useful when doing the editing process. this is direct feedback from our target audience age range, therefore, we could analyze what exactly we are missing.

01/12/16

what I achieved by end of today's lesson

I went on youtube and looked on most of my recent afrobeats history, i did this because i wanted to get current artist. Rather than an older one because it will be less relevant, especially because the song I produced is modern and current.

I then searched for different artist that had print adverts and CD, this was difficult because most younger audience do not release albums especially when they are not signed by major record companies

editing

this is a video of our editing timeline, we came up with the idea of making the introduction a series of establishing shots, with a fast cutting rate. Also, we made it black and white so it will break into colour after the kick, this is impactful because it makes the colours stand out more, and is a good build up for the 1st shot of the artist.

team meeting on shooting

Here's a print of when we were planning on going to the waterloo graffiti tunnel to shoot one our scene's with our dancers and cut aways

screen shot form group chat

We had created a whatsapp group chat so that we could keep in contact with each other when we are not in college, or when you have a idea to add in the video when you alone editing. we also plan days to film and also talk about things we needed to do in and out the lesson.

filming in a different location : HOXTON

over the weekend we decided to take the opportunity to shoot at a new location, so our music video wouldn't be boring and repetitive.sephora got a shot of the scene of where I had been shooting as I had the camera so she wanted to get different establishing shots, to change between scenes.

Learning how to use lighting

A member of the media  staff had showed us how to use the lights in the Tv studio so that we could shoot our music video with the best lighting and what we felt suited us. this helped on creating a motif for the video because most of the shoots were dimly lit. therefore, having a brighter light will create contrast.

Meeting

Most recent lip sync

filming from different angles

we wanted to have a variety of shot types for our lip sync, because it very conventional for video to have variation  of locations. this was effective because when it came to editing the clip because we had recorded the whole song in every take it, inserting the whole clip into the timeline.

Due to the weather the most of clip were highly coloured blue so we had to edit out the colour contrast.

Research and Planning

Change of Plan

We have been advised to use a male to perform the voiceover aspect of our music because, the male is singing the song. However, our plan before was to have girls singing the song and mimic the male artist. But, after considering the demographic of our audience we realised because we have no clear narrative anymore, we need to rethink the concept of the video.

1st Editing

Today, in lesson because my group had to refilm a part of music video, we wanted to start editing the footage that we have, so we can start get a initial order then it will be easier to add additional footage. Also, we add the audio so we can set up a timed sequence.

Fliming

we tired to shoot mostly mediums and closeups for the lip sync aspect of our
music video however, the lighting was effecting the quality that
we could achieve because it was difficult
to control the colour contrast.

also the black background is not suited to our urban theme
because it very plain and bland.
and does not convey the aflational and colourful
african culture, also it does not convey youth or fun.

However, if we need extra shoots we may use
this shoot as fillings between scenes
so we can have a variation of locations.
my role was to keep the timing of the sound track so that the lip sync will be escat, so when editing
it would make it easier to match it to the imported track

Sephora and Akira roles were to shoot the performers
and keep the camera in focus
Akira was mostly controlling the lighting

Team meeting

Today, we decided the day we are going to shoot, however, the original day that we planned to film was on wednesday but when we asked to book the day was already booked. therefore, we have decied to still film on wednesday but in a different location. So we decided that we will film on friday as the tv studio.

Storyboards

I have uploaded my storyboards on to a storyboard because it can present the storyboard in order, so the structure and order can still be shown. Also, when it is inserted as a image it is not as clear to read and see the images.

Media Recce

Our two locations that we will use to shoot a majority of the video is waterloo graffiti tunnel and brick lane.
I decided on the latter for my music video as it is huge, Urban and the strong youthful presence really suits my genre. Also, i consider graffiti arts so having a lot really compliments the genre of afrobeats because they are both quiet experimental and niche.

We researched if it was need to call the council and asked what I needed to do to gain permission to shoot there. However, because or locations are accessible to the public there is no strong grounds that we are not allowed to shoot on the locations and we will be granted filming or photography permission

Additionally, my shoot has to be on a weekday during normal opening hours, due to everyone work schedules an casted dances.

Team meeting

Weekly Group meetings

we were deciding what we actually want to do on our storyboards, like shot types and timings of the song. Also, to match the lyrics with the specific shots and cuts. This made it easier for me to know what i have to draw on the storyboards. Then the other members continued to complete their work.

Work in progress

ScreenShot of the snapchat message

Instead of sending an email, Sephora one of the members in the group had the producer of the track on one her social media's (snapchat). She asked him for permission to use the track to avoid any issues with copyright therefore, we have been granted access to record a music video for the song.

Start of the story boards
In the group we have roles to complete the pre production task. So  I am the main person in completing the story boards and drawing out each individual scene and keeping control of timing and shot types. By doing a detailed story board when we start to film it will be easier because we will have a clear direction of the music video.

Group meeting

ScreenShot for our Media Group Chat
We have created the group chat to hold meetings when needed. So decisions can be made sooner than later. For this particular meeting we had to designate what each person has to do to complete the pre production. However, everyone in the group is willing to help with the task when they have completed their own, incase the other person needs help remembering what we have agreed to do.
